First Night at home

As you can see our little girl is a tough one. She’s very determined to walk on her own. She didn’t really fall asleep until 4 am and neither did we. We were so afraid that she would stop breathing or her stitches would rip or something. We had to give her some pain meds in the middle of the night. Still had trouble giving her meds tho it took us about an hr and a couple of bites but she took them. She still isn’t eating very well, she had a couple pieces of chicken last night but not at all interested today. Her brother (Nanaki a chihuahua mix) is getting a little jealous because she’s getting chiken and rice so he stole a couple of pieces.

We are watching her like hawk and making sure her incision is healing well… ย and tomorrow I’ll be by my self with Bambi and two little needy puppers. I’m a little nervous…wish me luckย

  1. Awww she is sooo sweet! One thing about Chihuahuas… the only thing small about them is their bodies, lolol My Charlie had no idea how small he was, he thought he was the same size as my lab. And his heart was even bigger than that! You will be fine, they will be fine, sounds like you guys got it all under control ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hello and welcome. My current Tripawd, a rear amp, has a little Chi in her. Elly is pug, chi, and a bunch of other breeds!
I’ve always had good luck with the melty cheese method of pilling. You melt some small pieces of cheese in the microwave for just a few seconds- until its melty and oily. Then wrap the pill in one piece of cheese- just enough to fully cover the pill. It should end up with a sort of hardish shell and be a little oily so it slides down. I always give a couple ‘blank’ melty cheese balls first to prime the pump. I like to show a few cheese balls at a time because my dogs then tend to gulp them down! It also helps to feed one or two to the other dog first.
Here is some info on meds and getting your pup eating: http://nutrition.tripawds.com/2017/05/11/hide-pet-medication/. Lots of links there on giving pills.
One word of caution on the tramadol- it is really, really bitter. When you are hiding the pill in a treat or cheese do not touch the pill with your fingers- the taste will transfer to the outside of whatever you are hiding the pill in.
Hang in there and get rest when you can!

  3. OMD!!!! BAMBI BELLA IS SOOOOO DARN CUTE!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, the dirst several nights can be quite rough. And it may get a vit rougher arpund day three once all the hospital meds are out of her system. Just keep her pain meds consistent and try not to ket the pain get ahead start.

Chicken, hamvurger, grilled cheese, scramble eggs, bacon…anything she’ll eat right now is good! And Nanaki can get a taste of the food stuff too!

You’ll do fine tomorrow with Bambi. And remember, we have the tripawds helpline if you need some additional support or have any questions.

TRY and get some rest. This can be quite exhausting! And eat CHOCOLATE! Sleep and chocolate do wonders! ๐Ÿ™‚

Can’t wait to see more pictures of this cutie pie! ๐Ÿ™‚
    Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

  4. What a doll! We are so glad the healing is happening and what a lucky girl that Bambi Bella gets her favorite people home to help move things along. Oh and I’m sure your brudda has something to do with hit too right?

We hope things go well this week and you get the R&R you need to recovery quickly. Keep us posted!
